Entre Chiens et Loups est une s\u00e9rie de 5 romans qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9crite \u00e0 partir de 2001 par l\u2019auteure britannique Malorie Blackman. Je l\u2019ai lue pour la premi\u00e8re fois \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 12 ans, et je l\u2019ai personnellement trouv\u00e9e tr\u00e8s touchante et poignante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019histoire se passe dans un monde alternatif dans lequel les Europ\u00e9ens ont \u00e9t\u00e9 colonis\u00e9s et r\u00e9duits en esclavage par les Africains. L\u2019univers est assez similaire au n\u00f4tre, l\u2019action se d\u00e9roule au XXI\u00e8me si\u00e8cle en Angleterre. La soci\u00e9t\u00e9 est divis\u00e9e en deux classes, les Primas, qui sont les Noirs, sont sup\u00e9rieurs aux Nihils, qui sont les Blancs. La situation ressemble beaucoup \u00e0 la s\u00e9gr\u00e9gation raciale qui avait lieu dans notre monde il y a quelques d\u00e9cennies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les personnages principaux sont Sephy, la fille d\u2019un homme politique blanc, et Callum, qui est un Nihil et dont la famille travaille pour celle de Sephy. Ils ont grandi ensemble et au d\u00e9but du roman ils sont amis, malgr\u00e9 le fait que leurs parents essayent de les s\u00e9parer. Ils tombent amoureux l\u2019un de l\u2019autre mais cela leur est interdit et la situation est complexe : le fr\u00e8re et le p\u00e8re de Callum sont des terroristes politiques qui combattent pour leurs droits et pour l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9, et le p\u00e8re de Sephy est l\u2019une de leurs cibles. Je ne vais pas tout spoiler, mais par la suite ils devront faire face \u00e0 des d\u00e9cisions impossibles, des s\u00e9parations, beaucoup de violence, de morts, de suspicion\u2026 Plus loin dans la s\u00e9rie nous suivrons leur fille Callie Rose, qui devra vivre avec le pass\u00e9 de ses parents et essayer de trouver sa place dans un monde o\u00f9 elle n\u2019aurait m\u00eame pas d\u00fb exister. En effet elle fait partie de deux familles oppos\u00e9es, qui symbolisent les deux parties de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme on peut le voir, Malorie Blackman s\u2019exprime sur des sujets tr\u00e8s actuels de notre propre soci\u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e0 travers cette histoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle le rend d\u2019autant plus touchant qu\u2019elle montre diff\u00e9rents points de vue : les narrateurs seront \u00e0 tour de r\u00f4le les diff\u00e9rents personnages, si bien que nous pourrons suivre plusieurs actions \u00e0 la fois et avoir un point de vue global. Cela permet \u00e9galement au lecteur de s\u2019attacher \u00e0 chaque personnage, y compris ceux qui sont ennemis, si bien que l\u2019on ne peut pas d\u00e9cider quel camp soutenir. Ainsi l’auteure nous montre que dans ce type de conflits il n\u2019y a jamais les \u00ab gentils \u00bb d\u2019un cot\u00e9 et les \u00ab m\u00e9chants \u00bb de l\u2019autre. Chacun a ses raisons et agit selon ce qu\u2019il pense \u00eatre le mieux, il est rare que quelqu\u2019un agisse en sachant que ce qu\u2019il fait est mal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le sujet principal est le racisme. En \u00e9changeant les places des Blancs et des Noirs, l\u2019auteure nous montre que la situation aurait pu \u00eatre radicalement diff\u00e9rente si l\u2019Histoire avait \u00e9t\u00e9 diff\u00e9rente. Cela signifie que les Blancs qui sont racistes ne le sont pas par nature mais parce qu\u2019ils ont grandi dans une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qui leur a appris, souvent de fa\u00e7on implicite, \u00e0 se sentir sup\u00e9rieurs. Malheureusement, le gout de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce humaine pour le pouvoir l\u2019a fait r\u00e9duire des personnes innocentes en esclavage, mais la situation actuelle aurait pu \u00eatre \u00e9vit\u00e9e si certains avaient pris des d\u00e9cisions diff\u00e9rentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019auteure nous appelle \u00e0 garder espoir et surtout \u00e0 agir. En effet, nous sommes tous des humains, et ce qui rend les Blancs sup\u00e9rieurs est seulement une acceptation de d\u00e9cisions prises il y a des si\u00e8cles. Avec tout ce que nous savons aujourd\u2019hui, pourquoi ne pourrions-nous pas faire mieux que nos anc\u00eatres ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un autre sujet qui est abord\u00e9 est la violence, et plus particuli\u00e8rement le terrorisme politique. Une des questions principales est la suivante : peut-on utiliser la violence pour parvenir \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9 ? Vaut-il la peine de sacrifier des innocents pour mettre fin aux in\u00e9galit\u00e9s et pour lib\u00e9rer un part enti\u00e8re de l\u2019humanit\u00e9 ? Ou bien devrions nous choisir le silence afin de ne pas empirer la situation ? Dans l\u2019histoire, nous pouvons voir que la famille de Callum puis Callum lui-m\u00eame choisissent la violence qu\u2019ils consid\u00e8rent comme la seule solution. Ils veulent assurer un meilleur avenir \u00e0 leurs proches et sont pr\u00eats \u00e0 se sacrifier pour cela : d\u2019une certaine mani\u00e8re, ils pourraient \u00eatre per\u00e7us comme des h\u00e9ros. Bien s\u00fbr, Malorie Blackman n\u2019essaie pas de soutenir le terrorisme, il y a des moyens plus pacifiques et efficaces d\u2019obtenir gain de cause ! Ce qu\u2019elle veut montrer, c\u2019est qu\u2019aucun \u00eatre humain n\u2019est mauvais \u00e0 la naissance, on peut seulement le devenir en traversant des moments difficiles. Cela signifie qu\u2019il y a toujours l\u2019espoir de les voir revenir \u00ab du bon c\u00f4t\u00e9 \u00bb : personne n\u2019est parfait, mais chacun a des qualit\u00e9s et a le droit de vivre.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malorie Blackman s\u2019implique par sa s\u00e9rie dans un combat contre le racisme et appelle \u00e0 plus de paix et de tol\u00e9rance. Elle transmet un puissant message \u00e0 travers son ouvrage. Celui-ci est amplifi\u00e9 par l\u2019histoire et les personnages auxquels nous pouvons facilement nous identifier. Elle s\u2019exprime \u00e0 travers ces personnages. L\u2019histoire est tr\u00e8s bien \u00e9crite, pleine de suspense et de rebondissements. Elle est tr\u00e8s triste mais cela la rend d\u2019autant plus r\u00e9aliste et touchante. Ce livre m\u2019a fait beaucoup r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir (ce long article en t\u00e9moigne !) et je pense que je ne suis pas la seule\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noughts and crosses, a powerful novel by Malorie Blackman<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNoughts and crosses\u201d is a series of 5 novels that was written in 2001 by the British author Malorie Blackman. I read it for the first time when I was 12 and I personally found it really touching and powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story takes place in an alternative world, in which Europeans were colonized and made slaves by Africans. The world is quite similar to ours; the action takes place during the 21st<\/sup> century in England. The society is divided in two parts: the crosses, who are black people, are controlling the noughts, who are white people. It is really similar to the racial segregation that took place in our world a few decades ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main characters are Sephy, the daughter of a white politician, and Callum, who is a nought and whose family was working for Sephy\u2019s one. They grew up together and at the beginning of the story they are friends even if their parents are trying to separate them. They fall in love but their love is forbidden and the situation is really complicated: Callum\u2019s brother and father are political terrorists fighting for their rights and for equality, and Sephy\u2019s father is one of their targets. I won\u2019t spoil anything more, but what\u2019s important is that they have to deal with impossible decisions, separations, violence, death, suspicion\u2026 Later in the series we will be following their daughter Callie Rose, who will have to live with her parents\u2019 past and try to find her place in a world where she shouldn\u2019t even have existed. Indeed she is part of two opposite families symbolizing the two sides of the society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we saw Malorie Blackman is discussing several current issues through this story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is making it even more powerful by exposing different points of views: the narrators will successively be different characters so that we will be able to follow all their actions and to have a global view. It also makes the reader feel close to all the different characters even those who are enemies, so that we can\u2019t decide if we must hate or like them. It shows us that in this type of conflicts there are never good and bad people, but everyone is doing what he thinks is the best and they rarely act knowing that what they\u2019re doing is wrong.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first and most important subject is racism. By exchanging Black people and White people places, she is showing us that the situation could have been totally different if history had been different. This means that the white people that are being racist are not racist because they are white but because they are living in a society where they were told that they were superior. Sadly, human\u2019s taste for power made them turn innocent people into slaves, but today\u2019s situation wouldn\u2019t have been the same if history had been different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The author\u2019s message is a call for hope and action. Indeed we are all humans. What makes White people superior is only the fact of accepting a decision that has been made centuries ago. So why couldn\u2019t we see the evidence that with all our knowledge we could do better than yesterday?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another subject that she is dealing with is violence and especially political terrorism. A major question is: could we use violence to obtain equality? Are innocent people\u2019s lives worth sacrificing to stop unfairness and to free an entire part of the human race? Or should we choose to stay silent to make sure we don\u2019t make things worse? In the story, we can see that Callum\u2019s family and then Callum himself are becoming violent because they think it is the only solution. They want a better future for their families and they are ready to sacrifice themselves: in a way, they could be considered as heroes. Of course, Malorie Blackman is not trying to support terrorism, there are of course more peaceful and efficient ways to get evolved in a cause. What she means is that any human being is bad at the beginning; they become bad because of what they experience. It means that there is always hope for them to come back to right side: nobody is perfect, but everyone has qualities and is worth saving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malorie Blackman is getting involved in a fight against racism and calling for more peace and tolerance between people. Through her book, she gives a powerful message. It is amplified by the story, whose characters we can identify to. She is putting her own speech in her character\u2019s mouths. The story is well written, full of suspense and twists. It is really sad but it makes it more realistic and touching. This book has made me think a lot (that\u2019s why this article is so long ^^), and I believe that I am not the only one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
